Where To Shop When In Phuket Island

If you are taking a break from all the hustle and bustle of the city in Patong Beach, Thailand, know that there can be more that you can do other than just lounging around the beach and sipping guava juice. Buying souvenirs is just one of those many activities. However, if you have no idea where you should go, here is a list of great places to spend your money in and around the island:

  1. Shopping centres such as the JungCeylon, Central Festival, Tesco Lotus and Big C are ideal destinations. If you are into bargaining with store owners, however, you can try other places since prices are usually fixed in the said areas.
  2. Street vendors are commonly found along Bangla street and some lanes off the Kata and Karon beaches. Figures for items will often start high, so you have to be ready to haggle.
  3. Bazaars can be encountered all over the island. The OTOP Market on Rat-U-Thit Road is a night fair that is open three nights a week so that would be a good spot to start. The Central Market on Ranong Road also has stalls that sell food and souvenirs. Local fairs are hosted by almost all villages in the isle as well. These occur once or twice a week and you will be able to experience an Asian bazaar firsthand.
  4. Local shops can be located all over Phuket Town and they offer articles such as Thai silk and antiques. Thalang and Dibuk roads are the best parts of the town to start.
